Discover rich culture and local pastimes as you vacation in paradise. Stroll down Bay Street, Nassau’s main thoroughfare to find eclectic shopping and local restaurants; head just outside the city to explore fruit trees and bougainvillea at the first zoo in The Bahamas, or hop on a powerboat adventure on the blue clear seas. There’s something rewarding for everyone on Paradise Island.
Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre
Visit the plush, tropical gardens at the Bahamas first ever zoo, Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre, where you can not only see dozens of species of animals, birds and reptiles from around the world, but also world-famous marching flamingoes who strut their stuff throughout the zoo several times a day. Just outside of downtown Nassau and open nearly every day of the year, this zoo is also home to monkeys, iguanas and gorgeous fruit trees.
Colonial Cultural Discovery
Take in Nassau’s colonial charm with visits to historical places of interest. Climb the 63 stairs, carved by slaves out of limestone in the 18th century at Queen’s Staircase, considered Nassau’s most visited attraction. Or, take a walking tour through Rawson Square in downtown to enjoy the views of beautiful gardens and the pink Parliament and Supreme Court buildings. For the history buff, Fort Charlotte and the Bahamas Historical Museum provide a look at more than 500 years of interesting art and historical artifacts.
Powerboat and Sailing Adventures
There are plenty of ways to explore the gorgeous waters off Nassau. Fuel your need for speed and hold on tight during a powerboat excursion on top of blue, clear seas. Chartered speedboats take guests on action-packed trips to Allan’s Cay in the Exumas and other pristine cays for snorkeling, diving and beach picnics. For the more leisure pursuit, drift away on one of many day-sailboat cruises from Nassau, where you can sunbathe on the deck listening to the wind, waves and a great selection of music, all the while enjoying tropical-inspired food and drinks.
There aren’t many destinations where you can enjoy golf 365 days a year in pleasant, mild temperatures. Nassau golf courses offer lush grass that is as green as can be, championship courses and elegance during your Bahamas vacation. Try the beautiful Ocean Club Golf Course, or other seaside greens throughout Nassau and Paradise Island.
The waters of Nassau offer serious game fishing and light-tackle fishing for anglers of any level. Take any number of charters with professional fishers to look for the best fishing spots.
